NICE WebStation - Schedule Preferences allows you to enter, view, or edit your schedule preferences for default and date range preferences or for weekly rule preferences, depending on your MU's configuration. The system considers your unique preferences when generating schedules.
If your supervisor configured your MU to use date range preferences, you can enter schedule preferences for an existing date range, or you can create a new date range for which to define preferences. You can also define default preferences.
If your supervisor configured your MU to use weekly rule preferences, you can enter schedule preferences for any weekly rule assigned to you. You can also copy preferences from one weekly rule to another.
Each type of preference (such as, hours per week or stop times) for which your supervisor gave you permission appears in a separate tab on the Schedule Preferences page.
When you select the WebStation > Schedules > Schedule Preferences menu item on the navigation bar in the NICE WebStation, the Schedule Preference page displays a list of your date range records or a list of your weekly rules.
Note
The Schedule Preferences menu item is only available if you use the WebStation Schedule Preferences feature and your supervisor configured your MU or agent data group value to allow you to enter schedule preferences.
This section describes how to add or edit your schedule preferences, if your supervisor configured your MU to use date range preferences. You can add default preferences or preferences for a date range you select or create. The scheduler uses these date range preferences when generating your schedule. If there are no date range preferences defined for the date for which the scheduler is generating schedules, the scheduler uses your default preferences. If there are no default preferences defined, the scheduler does not use any preferences when generating your schedules.
This section explains how to add a new date range, edit an existing date range, delete schedule preferences, or view and modify schedule preferences. Refer to these topics:
When you select the Schedule Preferences menu item on the navigation bar, the system displays the Schedule Preferences - Date Range page. The Date Range page displays the Date Range Preferences table. This table shows the date ranges available for which you can edit your schedule preferences. There is also a default date range for which you can define preferences. The system uses the default preferences on dates for which no other preferences exist. You can edit the date range dates, as well as create new date ranges for adding or editing schedule preferences.
If your supervisor configured your MU or agent data value so no preference types are available for agent access, no tabs are accessible and there is no Date Range Preferences table. Instead, this message appears on the Date Range page: Your management unit has not yet been configured for entering schedule preferences.
The system also displays the Schedule Preferences - Date Range page any time you click the date range link or Default Date Range in the Viewing preferences for field of the other schedule preferences pages.
Figure 40 Schedule Preferences - Date Range Page
Refer to these topics:
To add, view, or edit your default preferences click Add preferences or Edit preferences for the Default date range in the Date Range Preferences table. The system displays the schedule preference pages for which your supervisor gave you access to view or edit. If there are no default preferences defined, the preference pages show default values (which are blank values for some fields). See Schedule Preferences Tabs for details on editing your default schedule preferences.
Click Add a date range in the Date Range Preferences table to add a date range for which you want to create preferences. The date range must be one or more complete weeks.
Refer to these topics:
In the Start date field, enter a start date for the new schedule preferences date range. Use the format indicated in this field (M/d/yy) when entering a date, or select a date from the calendar by clicking the calendar icon ().
In the End date field, enter an end date for the new schedule preferences date range. Use the format indicated in this field (M/d/yy) when entering a date, or select a date from the calendar by clicking the calendar icon.
If you want to copy the schedule preferences from an existing date range to the new date range, select Default or an existing date range in the Copy preferences from this date range field. If you do not want to copy preferences from an existing date range, leave this field set to the default value, (none), and the system does not copy any preferences to the new date range.
Click Continue to validate the start and end dates and add the new date range. If either of the dates is invalid, the system displays a message. You need to enter valid dates and click Continue again. The new date range cannot overlap an existing date range.
Once your new date range is valid, the system displays the schedule preferences tabs where you can view or modify preferences for the new date range as described in Schedule Preferences Tabs. If you copied preferences from an existing date range, these preferences are on the preference pages for the new date range. If you did not copy preferences from an existing date range, or you copied preferences from a date range without defined preferences, the preference pages show default values (which means blank values for some fields).
Click Cancel on the Add Date Range page to cancel adding the new date range and return to the Date Range page.
Click Add preferences or Edit preferences in the Date Range Preferences table to add, view, or modify preferences for the corresponding date range in the table. You can add or edit preferences for these preference pages (each type of preference is on a separate tab). Refer to these topics for instructions on editing your schedule preferences for each type of preference:
Note
You will not see preference tabs for any preferences your supervisor did not give you permission to view or edit.
Click Edit date range for a date range in the Date Range Preferences table to edit the start and end dates of the date range. The date range must be one or more complete weeks.
Refer to these topics:
In the Start date field, edit the start date for the schedule preferences date range. Enter a new date, or select a date from the calendar by clicking the calendar icon ().
In the End date field, edit the end date for the schedule preferences date range. Enter a new date, or select a date from the calendar by clicking the calendar icon.
Click Save to validate the modified start and end dates and change the date range. If either of the dates is invalid, the system displays a message. You need to enter valid dates and click Save again. The modified date range cannot overlap an existing date range.
Once your modified date range is valid, the system saves the changes and returns to the Date Range page.
Click Cancel on the Edit Date Range page to cancel editing the date range and return to the Date Range page.
Click Delete for a date range in the Date Range Preferences table to delete the schedule preferences for the date range.
When you click Delete, the system displays a confirmation message. Click OK to delete the date range preferences and the date range (if it is not the default date range). Click Cancel to close the confirmation message and return to the Date Range page without deleting the preferences or the date range.
Before deleting preferences, the system must validate that no special preferences exist (which it cannot delete). If special preferences exist, this message appears: A special preference has been entered for you. Therefore, preferences cannot be deleted for this date range. No change are made in this case.
If you delete your default preferences, the system deletes any default preferences you entered. However, the system does not delete the default date range. The preference values for the default date range change to the system default preference values (which means blank values for some fields).
To view or edit your default or specific date range preference pages, click Edit preferences for a date range in the Date Range Preferences table on the Date Range page (see Date Range Page). You can also access the preference pages by clicking Continue when adding a new date range (see Adding a Date Range). The system shows a tab for each type of preference your supervisor allows you to view and modify. The system arranges the preference pages (tabs) in alphabetical order.
Refer to these topics for a description of the fields on each preference page:
If your supervisor did not give you permission to edit a preference type, but preferences exist for the currently selected date range for the preference type, the preference page is view only. In this case, you cannot modify or delete the preference. This is true for any preference page containing preference data for which you do not have permission to edit.
On the Schedule Preferences - CUSTOM tab, you can view or enter the priority of your preferences. These priorities allow the flexibility to determine your most important preferences (for example, start times, days off, lunch lengths, and so on). The scheduler considers each agent’s unique custom preferences when generating schedules.
If your MU configuration does not allow you to enter custom priorities, the Custom page is view only and this message appears: Changes may not be made because a special preference has been entered for you.
Figure 41 Schedule Preferences - CUSTOM Tab (Date Range Preference)
Refer to these topics:
The Viewing preferences for field displays the currently selected date range for which you are viewing or editing preferences. If you are viewing or editing default preferences, this field displays Default Date Range. Click the date range link or Default Date Range to return to the Date Range page where you can select a different date range, add a date range, or edit the start or end date of a date range (see Date Range Page).
The PRIORITY column allows you to assign a priority (1-7 or blank) to each preference type, by order of importance. A priority number of 1 has the highest priority and a priority number of 7 has the lowest priority. If a preference type has a blank priority, the scheduler does not consider the preference type when generating schedules.
You can select priority numbers from 1-7, even if the system does not display some of the preference types. Select blank if you do not want to prioritize a preference type. You cannot enter the same priority value more than once for different preference types.
The view only PREFERENCE TYPE column displays the type of preference you are prioritizing. All custom preference types, except Start time consistency, correspond to a preference page. If you do not have permissions for a tab, the system does not display the corresponding custom priority preference type.
You can enter custom priorities for these preference types, if you have permissions:
Day off patterns
Weekly day off patterns.
Days per week
Number of days in a week to work.
Hours per week
Number of hours in a week to work.
Lunch length
Consistency of lunch length.
Start time
Schedule start time.
Start time consistency
Consistency of start time.
Stop time
Schedule end time.
To save your modified preference, click Save. If any errors occur while saving, the system displays an error message. Correct the error, then click Save again.
If you do not save changes, but select another page in NICE WebStation, the system asks if you want to save your changes. Click No to discard the changes, close the message box, and continue opening another page. Click Cancel to close the message box and return to the page with the unsaved changes. Click Yes to close the message box, save the changes on the current page, and continue opening another page.
On the Schedule Preferences - DAYS OFF tab, you can view or enter priorities for your day off patterns. The prioritization allows the flexibility to determine what day off patterns are most important to you. The scheduler considers each agent’s unique day off pattern preferences when generating schedules.
If your MU configuration does not allow you to enter day off preferences, but there are day off preferences defined, the Days Off page is view only and this message appears: Changes may not be made because a special preference has been entered for you.
If your MU does not have permissions for day off preferences, and there are no day off preferences defined, the DAYS OFF tab does not appear.

In the PARAMETERS section, enter values for the Minimum days off, Maximum days off, and Minimum consecutive days off. The system uses these values to display only those day off patterns with at least the specified minimum days off, no more than the specified maximum days off, and at least the specified minimum number of consecutive days off. If you change any of the parameters, click Update List to display the new pattern list for the parameters. If you select a value for at least one parameter, you must select a value for all parameters.
Refer to these topics:
Select the minimum number of days off in a work week (0-7 or blank) to include day off patterns with at least this number of days off in the pattern list. The Minimum days off must be less than or equal to the Maximum days off.
Select the maximum number of days off in a work week (0-7 or blank) to include day off patterns with no more than this number of days off in the pattern list.
Select the minimum number of consecutive days off in a work week (0-7 or blank) to include day off patterns with at least this number of consecutive days off in the pattern list. The Minimum consecutive days off must be less than or equal to the Minimum days off. The Minimum consecutive days off can only be zero if the Minimum days off is zero.
Click Update List to validate the parameters you entered and display the pattern list that matches your parameters.
The Update List button is only available when you make changes to one or more of the parameters.
When you make these changes to the parameters and click Update List, the number of day off patterns in the list increases:
Decrease the Minimum consecutive days off value.
Decrease the Minimum days off value.
Increase the Maximum days off value.
When you make these changes to the parameters and click Update List, the number of day off patterns in the list decreases:
Increase the Minimum consecutive days off value.
Increase the Minimum days off value.
Decrease the Maximum days off value.
Click Delete All to clear the day off pattern list and the parameter fields.
The day off patterns table shows each of your prioritized day off patterns based on your selected parameters. Each pattern (row) indicates whether you want to work or take off, for each day of the week. You must click Update List to display the day off patterns that match the specified parameters.
To edit your day off preference priorities, enter a unique number between 1 and 128 for any of the patterns in the list, where 1 is the most important to you and 128 is the least important.
The pattern list shows only the day off patterns with at least the specified minimum days off, no more than the specified maximum days off, and at least the specified minimum number of consecutive days off. You do not have to enter a priority for each one.
Note
If you enter priority numbers that are not contiguous, the system adjusts the numbers to be in order when you save the Days Off page. For example, if you enter priorities 1, 3, and 5, the system saves them as 1, 2, and 3.
You can sort by any column in the day off patterns table by clicking on the column header. Click again to sort in descending order.
Refer to these topics:
The PRIORITY column allows you to assign a priority to each day off pattern, by order of importance. The lower the priority number, the higher the priority (the preference assigned priority 1 is the most important preference to you, and 128 is the least important). Valid priority numbers are from 1 to 128, or blank.
The system does not require you to enter a priority for each day off pattern, however the priority numbers must be unique. If a duplicate priority exists, the system displays the duplicate priority number in a message when you click Save.
You may also add priorities to the day off patterns using the Auto-rank button. For more information, see Auto-rank.
Note
When you click Save, the system updates the priority values to remove gaps in the values, but does not populate blank fields.
These view only columns define the day off patterns for each day of the week. Each pattern consists of a green check mark for each day of the week you want to work and a red x for each day of the week you do not want to work. A column displays for each day of the week, beginning with your MU’s first day of week.
This view only column displays the number of days off (0-7) in each weekly day off pattern.
Click Auto-rank to automatically add a priority to any blank PRIORITY field. The system populates each blank row with the first available priority number between 1 and 128, according to the current sort order. To best auto-rank your preferences, first sort the columns so your more desirable day off patterns are closest to the top of the list. You can use the auto-rank feature when all, or some of the PRIORITY fields are blank. When you click Auto-rank, the system does not modify PRIORITY fields that are not blank.
To clear all the PRIORITY fields, click Clear all. You might want to clear all fields if you are using the auto-rank feature to assign your day off pattern priorities (see Auto-rank).
On the Schedule Preferences - DAYS PER WEEK tab, you can view or enter your preferences for the number of days per week you want to work. The days per week choices (1-8) allow the flexibility to determine the number of days per week preferences that are most important to you. The scheduler considers each agent’s days per week preferences when generating schedules.
If your MU configuration does not allow you to enter days per week preferences, but there are days per week preferences defined, the Days per Week page is view only and this message appears: Changes may not be made because a special preference has been entered for you.
If your MU does not have permissions for days per week preferences, and there are no days per week preferences defined, the DAYS PER WEEK tab does not appear.

Enter a value, 0-7 days or blank, for the 1st choice through 8th choice fields to indicate the number of days you want to work in a week. If you do not enter your choices in contiguous fields (you leave blank fields between choices with values), the system shifts the values so there are only blank fields at the end of the list of choices when you click Save.
On the Schedule Preferences - FAIRNESS tab, you can view or enter fairness preferences, Request off or Volunteer to work, for each day of the week. The fairness preference allows the flexibility to determine whether volunteering to work or requesting off is more important to you for each day of the week. The scheduler considers each agent’s unique fairness preferences when generating schedules.
If your MU configuration does not allow you to enter fairness preferences, but there are fairness preferences defined, the Fairness page is view only and this message appears: Changes may not be made because a special preference has been entered for you.
If your MU does not have permissions for fairness preferences, and there are no fairness preferences defined, the FAIRNESS tab does not appear.

For example, you could enter a list of your preferred weekly work hours by order of preference, or you could show the range of weekly hours you want to work, or that you want to work as many (or as few) hours as possible.
If you have permission to edit this preference page, but do not have permission to select any of the hours per week preference options, this message appears in place of the preference options: Your MU configuration does not allow any options for entering hours per week preferences.
There are seven possible options for your weekly hours preference. If you do not see all seven options on this page, your supervisor did not give you permission to edit all the hours per week preference options.
You can only select one option. All time entries must be between 0:00 and 168:00 hours (or blank). You can enter values as whole numbers (for example, 40) or as HH:MM (for example 40:00). You can enter minutes, but the minutes must be in 5 or 15–minute increments, depending on the schedule period length set up by your supervisor.
These hours per week options are available:
Select this option to enter up to 24 choices for the number of hours per week you prefer to work. Once you select this option, enter a work week length between 0:00 and 168:00 hours. You can enter up to 24 preferences, but you do not have to enter a value for all 24. The system lists these in order of priority, with 1st as the most desired number of hours per week that you want to work.
If you do not enter your preferences in contiguous fields (you leave blank fields between fields with values), the values shift so there are only blank fields at the end of the list of preferences when you click Save.
Select this option to enter a range of weekly hours you want to work. For instance, you want to work between 38 and 45 hours per week. You must enter a value for each field in this option.
Select this option if you want to work as few hours as possible in a week.
Select this option if you want to work as many hours as possible in a week.
Select this option if you want to work as close to a specified number of hours as possible. Enter a value for the number of hours you want to work. In addition, you can enter values for the optional fields, indicating you do not want to work fewer than a specified number of hours, or you do not want to work more than a specified number of hours. With this option, the schedule generator tries to schedule you for more hours first when generating your schedule.

Select this option if you do not have a preference for the number of hours per week you would like to work.
On the Schedule Preferences - LUNCH LENGTHS tab, you can view or enter the lengths of time you prefer for lunch each day of the week. The lunch length preferences allow the flexibility to determine the lunch lengths that are most important to you. The scheduler considers each agent’s lunch length preferences when generating schedules.
If your MU configuration does not allow you to enter lunch length preferences, but there are lunch length preferences defined, the Lunch Lengths page is view only and this message appears: Changes may not be made because a special preference has been entered for you.
If your MU does not have permissions for lunch length preferences, and there are no lunch length preferences defined, the LUNCH LENGTHS tab does not appear.

In the Lunch times are field, select the lunch time preference method for your lunch times. The text for the lunch time preference options changes to reflect your lunch time preference method. If you did not yet define lunch time preferences, this field defaults to Relative To My Schedule Start Time.
These options are available for the lunch time preference method:
Absolute Clock Times (For Example, 12:30 PM)
If you select the Absolute Clock Times option, the lunch times represent a specific time you want your lunch to start. For example, if you enter a forced lunch time of 12:30 PM, this means you want to schedule your lunch to start at 12:30 PM (regardless of the schedule start time).
Relative To My Schedule Start Time (For Example, 4:00)
If you select the Relative To My Schedule Start Time option, the lunch times represent a specific number of hours after your scheduled start time that you want to go to lunch. For example, if you enter a forced lunch time of 4 (or 4:00), this means you want to schedule your lunch to start 4 hours after your schedule start time.
Note
If you change the lunch time preference method after you enter and save lunch time preferences, many of the lunch time preferences could become invalid, requiring you to re-enter them.
The lunch time preferences table shows your preferred lunch times for each day of the week (or for all days). If you do not have any lunch time preferences defined for a day of the week, this message appears for the day: No lunch time preferences have been entered.

For any individual day (or all days) where your supervisor defined special preferences, the Edit, Delete, and Add A <preference type> Preference links do not appear. You cannot edit, delete, or add preferences for these days. If preferences exist for the same day that are not special preferences, you can change the priority of these preferences. When there are days with special preferences, the system displays all preferences for the day (special and not special) and a note below the preferences that changes are not allowed because there is a special preference.
You can edit, delete, and add preferences and priorities on any days of the week your supervisor did not enter special preferences.
The PRIORITY column allows you to prioritize up to 10 preferences for an individual day, or you can prioritize up to 10 preferences that represent all days. When generating schedules, the schedule generator considers the preferences with the highest priority first, with 1 being the most desired preference for each day, or for All Days.
Select or enter a priority (1-10) for the preferences in a day, by order of importance. The lower the priority number, the higher the priority (the preference assigned priority 1 is the one you want the most, and 10 is the one you want the least). No two preferences within a day can have the same priority, but you do not have to use consecutive priority numbers.
Note
You cannot edit the priority for special preferences.
Click Save to save the priorities of the preferences. If any errors occur while saving, the system displays an error message. Correct the error, then click Save again.
If you do not save changes, but click a link or select another page in NICE WebStation, the system asks if you want to save your changes. Click No to discard the changes, close the message box, and continue opening another page. Click Cancel to close the message box and return to the page with the unsaved changes. When you add and save a new preference, the system assigns the preference a priority number. If this is the first preference for the day of week (or for all days), the system assigns the preference a priority of 1. If preferences exist for the day of week (or for all days), the system assigns the preference the next priority order. For example, if 3 preferences exist with priorities of 1, 2, and 3, then when you save a new preference, the system assigns it a priority of 4. A priority of 1 is the preference that you most want for the day of week or for all days.
Once you add or edit and save your preferences, you can edit your preference priorities. To prioritize your preferences, see Priority.
On the Schedule Preferences - START TIMES tab, you can view or enter the start times you prefer for each day of the week. You can edit, delete, add, and prioritize start time preferences. In addition, you can enter values for the optional fields, indicating you do not want to start earlier than a specified time, or later than a specified time. With this option, the schedule generator tries to schedule a later start time first when generating your schedule.
This option is the same as Start Time Close to <x>, Between a Range (Prefer Later Time First), except with this option, the schedule generator tries to schedule an earlier start time first when generating your schedule.
On the Schedule Preferences - STOP TIMES tab, you can view or enter the stop times you prefer for each day of the week. You can edit, delete, add, and prioritize stop time preferences. The stop time preferences allow the flexibility to determine the stop times that are most important to you. The scheduler considers each agent’s stop time preferences when generating schedules.
You cannot add, edit, or delete stop time preferences for any day noted as having a special preference. For more information on special preferences, see Special Preferences.
If your MU configuration does not allow you to enter stop time preferences, but there are stop time preferences defined, the Stop Times page is view only and this message appears: Changes may not be made because a special preference has been entered for you.
If your MU does not have permissions for stop time preferences, and there are no stop time preferences defined, the STOP TIMES tab does not appear.

In the Stop times are field, select the stop time preference method for your stop times. The text for the stop time preference options changes to reflect your stop time preference method. If you did not yet define stop time preferences, this field defaults to Relative To My Schedule Start Time.
Absolute Clock Times (For Example, 12:30 PM)
If you select the Absolute Clock Times option, the stop times represent a specific time you want your schedule to end. For example, if you enter a forced stop time of 4:30 PM, this means you want your schedule to end at 4:30 PM (regardless of the schedule start time).
Relative To My Schedule Start Time (For Example, 4:00)
If you select the Relative To My Schedule Start Time option, the stop times represent a specific number of hours after your scheduled start time you want your schedule to end. For example, if you enter a forced stop time of 9 (or 9:00), this means you want your schedule to stop 9 hours after your schedule start time.
Note
If you change the stop time preference method after you enter and save stop time preferences, many of the stop time preferences could become invalid requiring you to re-enter them.
The stop time preferences table shows your preferred stop times for each day of the week (or for all days). If you do not have any stop time preferences defined for a day of the week, this message appears for the day: No stop time preferences have been entered.
Depending on whether you select relative or absolute as the preference method, the wording for these preferences reflects actual times or hours after start time. Refer to Select Absolute or Relative Stop Times for an explanation of the preference methods.
Refer to these topics:
Click Yes to close the message box, save the changes on the current page, and continue opening another page.
The PREFERENCE column displays a description of each defined stop time preference. For example, I would like to stop as late as possible, but no later than 6:00 PM.
To edit a stop time preference, click Edit for the stop time preference. See Add or Edit Your Stop Time Preferences for details on modifying a stop time preference.
Note
The system hides this link for days of the week on which a special preference exists (see Special Preferences). The system hides this link for all days if you do not have permission to edit stop time preferences.
To delete a stop time preference, click Delete for the stop time preference. This message appears: Are you sure you want to delete this stop time preference?
Click OK to delete the stop time preference. Click Cancel if you do not want to delete the stop time preference.
Note
The system hides this link for days of the week on which a special preference exists (see Special Preferences). The system hides this link for all days if you do not have permission to edit stop time preferences.
If you delete all stop time preferences for a day (or for all days), this message appears for the day (or for each day of the week, if deleting all preferences for All Days): No stop time preferences have been entered.
The Use These Preferences For All Days Of The Week link is available if the Stop Times page shows stop time preferences for each individual day of the week. If you want to use a day’s stop time preferences for all days of the week, click Use These Preferences For All Days Of The Week for that day. This message appears: Are you sure you want to use your <day of week> stop time preferences for all days of the week?
Click OK to use the day’s stop time preferences for all days of the week. The system displays the Stop Times page with one set of stop time preferences that apply to all days of the week. Click Cancel if you do not want to use the day’s stop time preferences for all days of the week. The Stop Times page shows stop time preferences for each individual day of the week.
You must save or cancel any changes to your stop time preference priorities before clicking Use These Preferences For All Days Of The Week.
Note
The system hides this link for all days if a special preference exists on any day (see Special Preferences), or if you do not have permission to edit stop time preferences.
The Enter Preferences For Each Day Of The Week link is available if the Stop Times page shows one set of stop time preferences that apply to all days of the week. If you want to enter stop time preferences for each individual day of the week, click Enter Preferences For Each Day Of The Week. The system displays the Stop Times page with each individual day’s stop time preferences the same as the All Days stop time preferences. You can now edit each individual day’s stop time preferences (see Add or Edit Your Stop Time Preferences).
You must save or cancel any changes to your stop time preference priorities before clicking Enter Preferences For Each Day Of The Week.
Note
The system hides this link for all days if a special preference exists on any day (see Special Preferences), or if you do not have permission to edit stop time preferences.
To add a stop time preference, click Add A Stop Time Preference For <day of week> for a day or Add A Stop Time Preference for All Days. See Add or Edit Your Stop Time Preferences for details on adding a stop time preference.
Note
The system hides this link for days of the week on which a special preference exists (see Special Preferences). The system hides this link for all days if you do not have permission to edit stop time preferences.
The system displays the Enter your stop time preferences page when you add or edit a stop time preference.
To edit a stop time preference, click Edit in the stop time preferences table next to the preference you want to edit. The Enter your stop time preferences page defaults to the stop time option and time values for the preference you are editing.
To add a stop time preference, click Add A Stop Time Preference For <day of week> (for a single day of the week) or Add A Stop Time Preference (for All Days) in the stop time preferences table. The Enter your stop time preferences page does not select a default option when you add a preference.
You can add up to 10 stop time preference options for each individual day, or up to 10 preferences for all days.
Figure 57 Enter your stop time preferences Page - Absolute Times
Figure 58 Enter your stop time preferences Page - Relative Times
Note
The Enter your stop time preferences page only displays the preference options for which your supervisor gave you permission. If no stop time options are available, this message appears: Your MU configuration does not allow any options for entering stop time preferences.
On the Enter your stop time preferences page, you can only select one stop time option for each preference.
If your stop time preference method is relative, all time entries must be between 00:00 and 23:55, or 00:00 and 23:45, depending on the schedule period length (5 or 15 minutes).
If your stop time preference method is absolute, all time entries must be between 12:00 AM and 11:55 PM, or 12:00 AM and 11:45 PM, depending on the schedule period length (5 or 15 minutes).
If you enter minutes, the minutes must be in 5 or 15-minute increments, depending on the schedule period length set up by your supervisor.
Depending on whether you selected relative or absolute as the preference method, the wording for these preferences reflects actual times or hours after your schedule start time. See Select Absolute or Relative Stop Times.
Refer to these topics:
Select this option to enter up to 12 stop times for this stop time preference. Once you select this option, enter a stop time preference based on your stop time preference method (see Select Absolute or Relative Stop Times). You can enter up to 12 preferences, but you do not have to enter a value for all 12. The system lists these in order of priority, with 1st as the most desired stop time.
If you do not enter your choices in contiguous fields (you leave blank fields between fields with values), the values shift so there are only blank fields at the end of the list of preferences when you click Save.
If your stop time preference method is absolute, select this option if you want to force your schedule to end at a specified time. You must enter a time in the time field.
If your stop time preference method is relative, select this option if you want to force your schedule to end a specified number of hours after your schedule start time. You must enter a value for the number of hours after the start time in the time field.
If your stop time preference method is absolute, select this option if you want your schedule to end as early as possible, but within a specified range of time. You must enter actual times in the two time fields.
If your stop time preference method is relative, select this option if you want your schedule to end as early as possible, but within a specified range of hours after your schedule start time. You must enter values for the number of hours after the start time in the two time fields.
If your stop time preference method is absolute, select this option if you want your schedule to end as late as possible, but within a specified range of time. You must enter actual times in the two time fields.
If your stop time preference method is relative, select this option if you want your schedule to end as late as possible, but within a specified range of hours after your schedule start time. You must enter values for the number of hours after the start time in the two time fields.
Select this option if you want your schedule to end as early as possible.
Select this option if you want your schedule to end as late as possible.
If your stop time preference method is absolute, select this option if you want your schedule to end as early as possible, but no earlier than a specified time. You must enter an actual time in the time field.
If your stop time preference method is relative, select this option if you want your schedule to end as early as possible, but no fewer than a specified number of hours after your schedule start time. You must enter a value for the number of hours after the start time in the time field.
If your stop time preference method is absolute, select this option if you want your schedule to end as late as possible, but no later than a specified time. You must enter an actual time in the time field.
If your stop time preference method is relative, select this option if you want your schedule to end as late as possible, but no more than a specified number of hours after your schedule start time. You must enter a value for the number of hours after the start time in the time field.
If your stop time preference method is absolute, select this option if you want your schedule to end as close to a specified time as possible. You must enter an actual time in the first time field. In addition, you can enter values for the optional fields, indicating you do not want your schedule to end earlier than a specified time, or later than a specified time.
If your lunch time preference method is relative, select this option if you want your schedule to end as close to a specified number of hours after your schedule start time as possible. You must enter a value for the number of hours after the start time in the first time field. In addition, you can enter values for the optional fields, indicating you do not want your schedule to end fewer than a specified number of hours after your schedule start time, or more than a specified number of hours after your schedule start time.
With this option, the schedule generator tries to schedule a later stop time first when generating your schedule.
This option is the same as Stop Time Close to <x>, Between a Range (Prefer Later Time First), except with this option, the schedule generator tries to schedule an earlier stop time first when generating your schedule.
This section describes how to add or edit your schedule preferences if your supervisor configured your MU to use weekly rule preferences. You can add preferences for any of your assigned weekly rules. If the schedule generator uses a weekly rule for which you have preferences defined, it considers these preferences when generating your schedules.
Refer to these topics:
When you select the Schedule Preferences menu item on the navigation bar, the system displays the Schedule Preferences - Weekly Rule page. The Weekly Rule page displays the Weekly Rule Preferences table. This table shows the weekly rules available for which you can edit your schedule preferences.
For each weekly rule, the Weekly Rule Preferences table displays:
ID
The weekly rule ID. A red asterisk appears next to the ID number if the weekly rule or any daily rules assigned to the weekly rule changed since you last saved the preferences.
WEEKLY RULE
The name of the weekly rule.
DATES USED
The date range for which the weekly rule is assigned to you, or Default.
MIN / MAX DAYS
The weekly rule's minimum and maximum number of days to schedule. This field is blank for weekly rules that use date range scheduling.
If your supervisor configured your MU or agent data value so no preference types are available for agent access, no tabs are accessible and there is no Weekly Rule Preferences table. Instead, this message appears on the Weekly Rule page: Your management unit has not yet been configured for entering schedule preferences.
The system also displays the Schedule Preferences - Weekly Rule page any time you click the weekly rule link in the Viewing preferences for field of the other schedule preferences pages.
Figure 59 Schedule Preferences - Weekly Rule Page
Refer to these topics:
Click Add preferences or Edit preferences in the Weekly Rule Preferences table to add, view, or modify preferences for the corresponding weekly rule in the table. You can add or edit preferences for these preference pages (each type of preference is on a separate tab). Refer to these topics for instructions on editing your schedule preferences for each type of preference:
Note
You will not see preference tabs for any preferences your supervisor did not give you permission to add, view, or edit.
Click Delete for a weekly rule in the Weekly Rule Preferences table to delete the schedule preferences for the weekly rule.
When you click Delete, the system displays a confirmation message. Click OK to delete the weekly rule preferences and the weekly rule (if the weekly rule is not part of any of your agent work rule records). Click Cancel to close the confirmation message and return to the Weekly Rule page without deleting the preferences or the weekly rule.
Before deleting preferences, the system must validate that no special preferences exist (which it cannot delete). If special preferences exist, this message appears: A special preference has been entered for you. Therefore, preferences cannot be deleted for this weekly rule. No change is made in this case.
The Delete link is only available if there are schedule preferences to delete.
If you want to copy the schedule preferences from one weekly rule to another, click Copy agent preferences at the top of the page. The system displays the Copy Agent Preferences dialog.
Refer to these topics:
In the Copy from Weekly rule field, select a weekly rule from which you want to copy schedule preferences. The drop-down list contains all weekly rules for which you have preferences defined.
In the Copy to Weekly rule field, select a weekly rule to which you want to copy schedule preferences. The drop-down list contains any weekly rule assigned to you.
Click Save to copy the schedule preferences from the Copy from Weekly rule to the Copy to Weekly rule. If the weekly rules are invalid, the system displays a message. You need to select valid weekly rules and click Save again. The Copy from Weekly rule and the Copy to Weekly rule cannot be the same weekly rule.
Click Cancel to close the Copy Agent Preferences dialog without copying the preferences.
If the Copy to Weekly rule has existing schedule preferences defined, the system displays a message that it will overwrite the existing preferences for this weekly rule. Click OK to continue with the copy. Click Cancel to close the Copy Agent Preferences dialog without copying the preferences.
To add, view, or edit your weekly rule preference pages, click Add preferences or Edit preferences for a weekly rule in the Weekly Rule Preferences table on the Weekly Rule page (see Weekly Rule Page). The system shows a tab for each type of preference your supervisor allows you to add, view, and modify. The system arranges the preference pages (tabs) in alphabetical order.
Refer to these topics for a description of the fields on each preference page:
If your supervisor did not give you permission to add or edit a preference type, but preferences exist for the currently selected weekly rule for the preference type, the preference page is view only. In this case, you cannot modify or delete the preference. This is true for any preference page containing preference data for which you do not have permission to edit.
On the Schedule Preferences - CUSTOM tab, you can view or enter the priority of your preferences. These priorities allow the flexibility to determine your most important preferences (for example, daily rules, start times, days off, lunch lengths, and so on). The scheduler considers each agent’s unique custom preferences when generating schedules.
If your MU configuration does not allow you to enter custom priorities, the Custom page is view only and this message appears: Changes may not be made because a special preference has been entered for you.
Figure 60 Schedule Preferences - CUSTOM Tab (Weekly Rule Preference)
Refer to these topics:
The Viewing preferences for field displays the currently selected weekly rule for which you are viewing or editing preferences. Click the weekly rule link to return to the Weekly Rule page where you can select a different weekly rule (see Weekly Rule Page).
If you want to copy the schedule preferences from one weekly rule to another, click Copy agent preferences at the top of the page. The system displays the Copy Agent Preferences dialog. See Copy Agent Preferences for details.
When you click Copy agent preferences, the system does not copy unsaved agent preferences from one weekly rule to another. The system only copies agent preferences you saved to the database.
The PRIORITY column allows you to assign a priority (1-8 or blank) to each preference type, by order of importance. A priority number of 1 has the highest priority and a priority number of 8 has the lowest priority. If a preference type has a blank priority, the scheduler does not consider the preference type when generating schedules.
You can select priority numbers from 1-8, even if the system does not display some of the preference types.
Daily rules
Daily rules that are members of the weekly rule.
On the Schedule Preferences - DAILY RULES tab, you can view or enter priorities for the daily rules that are members of the selected weekly rule. The prioritization allows the flexibility to determine the daily rules that are most important to you. The scheduler considers each agent’s unique daily rule preferences when generating schedules.
If your MU configuration does not allow you to enter daily rule preferences, but there are daily rule preferences defined, the Daily Rules page is view only and this message appears: Changes may not be made because a special preference has been entered for you.
If your MU does not have permissions for daily rule preferences, and there are no daily rule preferences defined, the DAILY RULES tab does not appear.

The view only Instructions field displays any instructions your supervisor entered for you. This field does not appear if your supervisor did not enter instructions for you or if your MU or agent data group value does not have permission to view the instructions.
The daily rules table shows each of your prioritized daily rules that are members of the selected weekly rule. You can enter daily rule preferences that apply to all days of the week for each daily rule, or you can enter daily rule preferences for each day of the week for each daily rule.
To edit your daily rule preference priorities, enter a unique number greater than zero for any of the daily rules in the table, where 1 is the most important to you and the largest number you enter is the least important. You do not have to enter a priority for each daily rule.
Note
If you enter priority numbers that are not contiguous, the system adjusts the numbers to be in order when you save the Daily Rules page. For example, if you enter priorities 1, 3, and 5, the system saves them as 1, 2, and 3.
You can sort by any column in the daily rules table by clicking on the column header. Click again to sort in descending order.
The columns that appear in the daily rules table depend on how a supervisor configured your MU or agent data group value, and whether the selected weekly rule forces member patterns (where the schedule generator must create schedules for all Can days of a daily rule (member) in the weekly rule, or it does not use the daily rule).
Refer to these topics:
The PRIORITY column allows you to assign a priority to each daily rule in the selected weekly rule, by order of importance. The priority ranking applies to all days of the week for each daily rule. The lower the priority number, the higher the priority (the preference assigned priority 1 is the most important preference to you, and the highest priority number is the least important). Enter a number greater than zero for the priority.
If you enter the same priority value more than once for different daily rules, the system reorders all other rows, if necessary, to avoid duplicates. If you enter a priority of zero, the system changes it to 1 and reorders all other rows, if necessary, to avoid duplicates. The system does not populate blank fields.
Note
When you click Save, the system updates the priority values to remove gaps in the values. The lowest priority value is 1, the next lowest is 2, and so on. The system does not populate blank fields.
The PRIORITY column only appears if you are entering one priority for each daily rule that applies to all days of the week (using the same preference for all days of the week). To enter priorities for each day of the week for each daily rule, see Enter Preferences For Each Day Of The Week.
This view only column displays the IDs of the daily rules that are members of the selected weekly rule.
A daily rule can appear multiple times in the daily rules table. Daily rules appear in the daily rules table as many times as the weekly rule includes them.
The EARLIEST START TIME column appears if your MU or agent data group value have permission for it. This view only column displays the earliest start time for a schedule created using each daily rule.
The LATEST START TIME column appears if your MU or agent data group value have permission for it. This view only column displays the latest start time for a schedule created using each daily rule.
The SCHEDULE LENGTH column appears if your MU or agent data group value have permission for it. This view only column displays the length of a schedule created using each daily rule.
The EARLIEST LUNCH TIME column appears if your MU or agent data group value have permission for it. This view only column displays the earliest time the lunch break can start for a schedule created using each daily rule. The time is a length of time or a time of day, depending on the daily rule's break timing method (relative or absolute).
The LATEST LUNCH TIME column appears if your MU or agent data group value have permission for it. This view only column displays the latest time the lunch break can start for a schedule created using each daily rule. The time is a length of time or a time of day, depending on the daily rule's break timing method (relative or absolute).
The LUNCH LENGTH column appears if your MU or agent data group value have permission for it. This view only column displays the lunch length of a schedule created using each daily rule.
The MIN DAYS column appears if your MU or agent data group value have permission for it. The column does not appear if the selected weekly rule forces member patterns (where the schedule generator must create schedules for all Can days of a daily rule in the weekly rule, or it does not use the daily rule). This view only column displays the minimum number of days to use each daily rule when generating a weekly schedule.
The MAX DAYS column appears if your MU or agent data group value have permission for it. The column does not appear if the selected weekly rule forces member patterns (where the schedule generator must create schedules for all Can days of a daily rule in the weekly rule, or it does not use the daily rule). This view only column displays the maximum number of days to use each daily rule when generating a weekly schedule.
The DAYS column appears if your MU or agent data group value have permission for it. The column does not appear if the selected weekly rule does not force member patterns (where the schedule generator must create schedules for all Can days of a daily rule in the weekly rule, or it does not use the daily rule).
This view only column displays the number of days to use each daily rule when generating a weekly schedule. This is the number of days showing Can in the days of the week columns (see Days of the Week).
The MIN HOURS column appears if your MU or agent data group value have permission for it. The column does not appear if the selected weekly rule forces member patterns (where the schedule generator must create schedules for all Can days of a daily rule in the weekly rule, or it does not use the daily rule).
This view only column displays the minimum number of hours to schedule from each daily rule when generating a weekly schedule. This is the daily rule schedule length multiplied by the minimum number of days to use the daily rule (SCHEDULE LENGTH x MIN DAYS).
The MAX HOURS column appears if your MU or agent data group value have permission for it. The column does not appear if the selected weekly rule forces member patterns (where the schedule generator must create schedules for all Can days of a daily rule in the weekly rule, or it does not use the daily rule).
This view only column displays the maximum number of hours to schedule from each daily rule when generating a weekly schedule. This is the daily rule schedule length multiplied by the maximum number of days to use the daily rule (SCHEDULE LENGTH x MAX DAYS).
The HOURS column appears if your MU or agent data group value have permission for it. The column does not appear if the selected weekly rule does not force member patterns (where the schedule generator must create schedules for all Can days of a daily rule in the weekly rule, or it does not use the daily rule). This view only column displays the number of hours to schedule from each daily rule when generating a weekly schedule. This is the schedule length multiplied by the number of days to use the daily rule (SCHEDULE LENGTH x DAYS).
The days of the week columns change based on whether you are entering daily rule priorities for all days of the week or for each individual day of the week.
If you are entering priorities for all days of the week (using the same preference for all days of the week), the days of the week columns are view only. These view only columns display whether the scheduler can use the daily rule for the day of week when generating a schedule. Each daily rule consists of Can for each day of the week the scheduler can use the daily rule, and No for each day of the week the scheduler cannot use the daily rule. The system displays a column for each day of the week, beginning with your MU’s first day of week.
Note
One or more of the view only columns may not appear, if your MU or agent data group value does not have permission for them.
If you are entering priorities for each day of the week (using different preferences for each day of the week), the days of the week columns allow you to assign a priority to each day in a daily rule. The lower the priority number, the higher the priority (the preference assigned priority 1 is the most important preference to you, and the highest priority number is the least important). Enter a number greater than zero for the priority for each day in the daily rule where the scheduler can use the daily rule (Can days). You cannot enter a priority for days where the scheduler cannot use the daily rule (No days).
If you enter the same priority value more than once for the same day in different daily rules, the system reorders all other rows in the column, if necessary, to avoid duplicates. If you enter a priority of zero, the system changes it to 1 and reorders all other rows in the column, if necessary, to avoid duplicates. The system does not populate blank fields or days of the week for which the scheduler cannot use the daily rule when generating a schedule (No days).
Note
When you click Save, the system updates the priority values to remove gaps in the values. The lowest priority value is 1, the next lowest is 2, and so on. The system does not populate blank fields.
The enter preferences for each day of the week link is available if the Daily Rules page shows one daily rule preference, for each daily rule, that applies to all days of the week. If you want to enter daily rule preferences for each individual day of the week, click enter preferences for each day of the week. The system displays the Daily Rules page where you can edit each individual day’s daily rule preferences (see Days of the Week).
If you switch from entering preferences for all days of the week to entering preferences for each day of the week and you previously entered preferences for each day of the week, the system displays these preferences, if you did not save the preferences for all days of the week. If you saved preferences for all days of the week, the preferences for each day of the week are blank.
Note
This link does not appear if a special preference exists for any daily rule, or if you do not have permission to edit daily rule preferences.
The Use these preferences for all days of the week link is available if the Daily Rules page shows daily rule preferences, for each daily rule, for each individual day of the week. If you want to enter daily rule preferences for all days of the week, click Use these preferences for all days of the week. The system displays the Daily Rules page with one daily rule preference where you can edit each daily rule's preference that applies to all days of the week (see Priority).
If you switch from entering preferences for each day of the week to entering preferences for all days of the week and you previously entered preferences for all days of the week, the system displays these preferences, if you did not save the preferences for each day of the week. If you saved preferences for each day of the week, the preferences for all days of the week are blank.
Note
This link does not appear if a special preference exists for any daily rule, or if you do not have permission to edit daily rule preferences.
Click Auto-rank to automatically add a priority to any blank PRIORITY field or day of week field. The system populates each blank row with the first available priority number beginning with 1, according to the current sort order. To best auto-rank your preferences, first sort the columns so your more desirable daily rules are closest to the top of the list. You can use the auto-rank feature when all, or some of the PRIORITY fields or day of week fields are blank. When you click Auto-rank, the system does not modify fields that are not blank.
If you click Auto-rank when entering priorities for each day of the week, the system does not add priorities to the days of the week for which the scheduler cannot use the daily rule when generating a schedule (No days).
To clear all the PRIORITY fields or priorities in the day of week fields, click Clear All. You might want to clear all fields if you are using the auto-rank feature to assign your daily rule priorities (see Auto-rank).
